McCallum Arts Center Grand Opening

The nationally recognized McCallum Fine Arts Academy has a new home at the magnificent McCallum Arts Center (MAC), located at McCallum High School. The Austin Independent School District (AISD) and the Friends of the McCallum Fine Arts Academy celebrated the grand opening on Friday, September 30 with an open house and performances by McCallum dance students, choir, band, orchestra and classical guitar students.

The 25,000 square foot facility showcases a theater and three state-of-the-art classrooms. Funding for the $9.4 million dollar facility was made available through the 2008 Bond Program. MAC has earned a 5-star Green Energy Rating, the highest award from the Austin Energy Green Building program, because of its energy saving and environmental features.

Nationwide Test of the Emergency Alert System

There is scheduled an nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) test to be conducted on Wednesday, November 9th at 1:00 p.m. CST.

We understand that the cable/video providers and broadcast stations will be directly involved, but thought the test may generate some questions or concerns for viewers.

October 25, 2011 Public Hearing on Facility Master Plan

39th Annual Marching Band Jamboree - Updated Air Schedule

The Austin Independent School District (AISD) 39th Annual Marching Band Jamboree was held on Tuesday, September 13, at the Toney Burger Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. The event showcased nearly 400 AISD students, which included the AISD all-star band, Travis High School, Lanier High School, Reagan High School, Crockett High School, McCallum High School, LBJ/LASA High School, Akins High School, Anderson High School, Austin High School, and Bowie High School. Special guests, the Texas State University Marching Bobcat Band led by Director Dr. Caroline Beatty, performed the grand finale.

Austin Youth Orchestra Grand Finale

Austin Youth Orchestra Spring Season Grand Finale Performance. (AYO), founded in 1993, was established to enhance orchestral music education in the metropolitan Austin and central Texas area. The various orchestras accommodate different levels of experience, playing ability, and age groupings:

* Symphony Orchestra: Grade 8 and above, String/Full Orchestra (Fall and Spring)
* Philharmonic Orchestra: Grade 6 and above, String/Full Orchestra (Fall and Spring)
* Sinfonietta Orchestra: Grade 4 and above, String Orchestra (Fall and Spring)
* Camerata Orchestra: Grade 3 and above, String Orchestra (Fall and Spring)
* Intermezzo Orchestra: Grade 2 and above, String Orchestra (Fall and Spring)
* Concertante Orchestra: Kindergarten and above, String Orchestra (Spring only)
Membership in the AYO program is an enriching, rewarding, and enjoyable experience in that students receive comprehensive and intensive orchestral instruction, including regular performances at various venues of the highest quality of literature in addition to opportunities to observe master classes by Austin Symphony Orchestra guest artists.
