Latest Episode of Inside AISD



AISD TV is pleased to announce a new episode of Inside AISD. This monthly "good news" TV show highlights good news and programs as well as recognizes students and staff.

Inside AISD will air on AISD TV Ch 22 on TimeWarner Cable, Grande Communications, U-verse 99. Full episodes will also be posted to our blog. The show is featured on AISD-TV (Channel 22 on Time Warner and Grande Systems and on the channel 99 menu system on U-verse) at the following dates and times:
Saturday, May 4, 6:30pm
Sunday, May 5, 8:00am
Tuesday, May 7, 6:30pm

The sixth episode of Inside AISD airs on AISD TV Ch 22 throughout the programming cycle as well as being posted to the blog at aisdtv.blogspot.com.



AISD participates in SXSWedu : For the first time, AISD partnered with the SXSWedu conference. Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen was a distinguished speaker discussing the challenges facing urban school districts. Dr. Pauline Dow joined a panel discussion on how education fuels Austin’s tech industry. To cover all of these educational stories, SXSWedu invited three AISD students—Jessica Cruz from Travis, Amanda Marquette from Bowie and Stephanie Park from LASA—to interview industry leaders and blog about their experience. AISD partnered with SXSWedu on the first Future Plans: College and Career Fair. The fair was free and open to Central Texas high school students and their families. This event brought together area students with practical information regarding their options beyond high school.

LASA Student Filmmaker wins big at SXSWfilm: At the 2013 SXSW Film Festival, Liberal Arts and Science Academy Senior Alina Vega was named jury winner in the High School Short Film showcase. Her movie, “The Benefactress,” follows a seamstress for a high school theater company as she prepares for the next production.

Eastside Panther Band performs at SXSWmusic : Eastside Memorial High School’s Panther Band kicked-off Rachel Ray’s Feedback event at SXSW, performing a rock and roll set as music fans arrived. See highlights of the Eastside Panther Band's performance plus hear from several band members as they reflect their experience.

Profile of Tarrah Thompson: Tarrah Thompson is an AVID teacher at Bedichek Middle School. Tarrah started as an AVID teacher 3 years ago and helps prepare her students for college and careers. The Mission of AVID is to ensure that ALL students, especially those who are in the academic middle of their class, will succeed in rigorous curriculum, complete a rigorous college preparatory path, enter mainstream activities of the school, increase their enrollment in four - year colleges, and become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society. AVID's approach is designed to support the students and educators as they increase school - wide / district - wide learning and performance.

Read Across America : Andrews Elementary School Kindergarten students celebrated Read Across America Day, which is also acclaimed children's author Dr. Seuss’s birthday, with a special celebration. The nationwide literacy celebration took place with the help of representatives from the Austin Police Department, the Austin Public Library, AmeriCorps College Forward, AmeriCorps ACE Tutors, the UT School of Information and Principal, Laurie Barber. Additionally, librarian Danny Ramos commandeered Marines from the Public Affairs Division in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to read aloud to the children via Skype.

Great News Highlights: The African American Parent Involvement Conference-Parents were able to learn about how parent involvement enhances student education. Academic Night at Linder Elementary- Students in grades first through fifth hosted activities in reading, math and science in an atmosphere of exploration and wonder. The event brought together staff, students and their families who participated in learning activities and enjoyed a dinner provided by the school’s PTA. Keiling BPA students-Five students from the Kealing Middle School chapter of the Business Professionals of America (BPA) will travel to Orlando to compete in the 2013 National Leadership Conference. The students will join more than 5,000 other delegates from across the country to compete in business skills competitions, workshops and learning sessions.
