New Episode InsideAISD



The second episode of Inside AISD is scheduled to premier Thursday, October 3rd at 6:30pm. 

Inside AISD airs on AISD TV Ch 22 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 8:00am as well as being posted to the blog at aisdtv.blogspot.com.

Below are descriptions of the topics covered in this episode.

Back to School Night: Back to School Night allows parents to meet their child’s teachers and learn about some of their child’s classes or coursework.  We visit Cowan Elementary, Garcia Middle School and Akins High School to get a glimpse into the annual AISD Back To School Night.

Great News highlights: Be Healthy. Be Here. Be Hooked.-Austin ISD is pleased to continue its partnership with the University of Texas at Austin for the AISD Attendance Incentive Program. AISD launched the attendance program last year to encouraging students and staff members to be in school all day, every day—because every day counts for student learning and achievement. NAHREP Donates to Mendez Middle School-The National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals and its supporters raised more than $7,400 for students at Austin ISD’s Mendez Middle School. In addition to the monetary donation, the organization also provided 50 backpacks and hundreds of school supplies to students at Mendez. North Central Elementary Groundbreaking- AISD hosts the official groundbreaking and construction preview celebration for the new North Central Elementary School number 2.  Austin voters approved the construction of the North Central Elementary School No. 2 as part of the 2008 Bond Program. AISD Band Jamboree: Marching bands from AISD high schools perform at the annual Marching Band Jamboree.  The event provides students an opportunity to perform their competition piece for judges and showcase their talents to the public.   Highland Park Elementary named Green Ribbon School-Highland Park Elementary School is one of only a handful of schools across the nation to earn the designation of a Green Ribbon School. To qualify for the designation, schools created teams to implement activities that promote a greener outlook and enhance the relationship between children and nature.

Arts Integrated Lesson at Lamar Middle School: Providing an arts-rich environment for AISD students is key to Austin's future economic and cultural vitality.  The Any Given Child Initiative is a partnership among Austin ISD, MindPop, the City of Austin and over 40 arts and cultural organizations dedicated to student success through an arts-rich education.  We visit Lamar Middle School to see how an arts-rich activity helps students. 

Chinese Immersion at Doss Elementary: Last December, the Board of Trustees voted to approve five AAFRs including expanding dual language immersion programs to four additional schools.  One of those was a one-way Chinese dual language immersion program at Doss Elementary.  The U.S. State Department has listed Chinese as a critical language for our global economy.

Superhero Science a TED-Ed animated series: A lesson plan created by a Linder Elementary School teacher has been developed into an animated educational video by TED, a nonprofit organization famous for its inspirational 18-minute talks and its “Ideas Worth Sharing” tagline, and is now being shared globally with learners and educators all over the world.

Travis High School Band 60th Reunion: The Travis High School Band has been a prominent fixture in South Austin for 60 years.  Generations of band members and directors gather to celebrate their shared history.
