New Episode InsideAISD

The third episode, this season, of Inside AISD is scheduled to premier Thursday, November 7th at 6:30pm.

Inside AISD airs on AISD TV Ch 22 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 8:00am as well as being posted to the blog at aisdtv.blogspot.com.

Below are descriptions of the topics covered in this episode.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month  October was National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Texas Advocacy Project and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office partnered with School Districts in Travis, Hays and Bastrop Counties on the campaign.  Football players wore a Purple Ribbon on their helmets to bring awareness to Domestic Violence. This year ROTC and dance teams also participated.

Differentiated Learning   This summer, teachers attended sessions that explained how to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.  These sessions are examples of how AISD is focused on developing the whole child through innovative and effective teaching strategies. Differentiated Instruction is responsive teaching that requires that teachers understand how kids think and learn.  It is a proactive approach to student-aware teaching. It is guided by the premise that educators should maximize student potential by providing engagement and challenge for every student.

AISD Sustainability Conference  Last year, AISD formed a committee, known as the ESAC, to advise the district on environmental education, stewardship and sustainability. The district partnered with ESAC to present the first annual Environmental Sustainability Conference. The conference included environmental workshops and a keynote address by Lucia Athens, Chief Sustainability Officer for the City of Austin.

Marathon Kids Kick Off  The Kick Off Ceremony is the official start to the Marathon Kids 26.2 Mile Challenge. All children in the Marathon Kids program, as well as their teachers, families, friends and neighbors are encouraged to attend and celebrate as thousands of  "Marathon Kids" begin their journey to a healthier, happier life with a lap around the track!

Great News Highlights:
National Hispanic Heritage Month  Every year from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, Austin ISD joins the rest of the country to observe National Hispanic Heritage Month.  Schools from across the district have been finding their own ways to celebrate and educate students about the important role the Latino and Hispanic populations have had in shaping our nation’s history.

Elevate the Arts Grant  AISD’s Patton Elementary School was named one of 13 across the nation to receive the Elevate the Arts grant from the American Girl Company. The grant contest asked elementary school art teachers and their students to creatively illustrate the importance of having art in their schools. The contestants had to incorporate the theme of a hot air balloon into their entries.  The fifth graders learned to weave newspaper baskets, which they attached to a large, multicolored Chihuly-inspired orb that created the look and feel of a hot air balloon.

ACC The Picture Review  Austin Community College welcomes all Austin area High School students to submit photography images submitted in the categories of people, places or things.  ACC Advanced Imaging students will work as mentors reviewing the work and creating short videos offering feedback.  The top three pictures in each category will be selected to appear in the Fall Print show at ACC.  The deadline for submissions is November 15th at midnight.  For detailed information about submissions contacthello@thepicturereview.com
