New Inside AISD!




Inside AISD is AISD TV's original good news monthly TV program highlighting exciting news and programs in AISD while featuring students and staff.

The fifth episode of Inside AISD is scheduled to premier Thursday, February 6th 2014 at 6:30pm.

Inside AISD airs on AISD TV Ch 22 every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 8:00am as well as being posted to the blog at aisdtv.blogspot.com.

Below are descriptions of the topics covered in this episode.

St. David’s SEL Grant-The St. David’s Foundation generously donated a grant for over one million dollars to the Austin Public Education Foundation to expand AISD’s Social and Emotional Learning initiative. AISD began SEL in 2011 with 27 schools and has expanded the program to 73 schools this year. The district goal is to have SEL in all schools at every grade level in two years.

Thank A Million Teachers- Austin was one of the four cities to launch Farmer's Insurance national campaign to "Thank a Million Teachers" and to provide teachers an opportunity to receive grants, which can be used for National Board Certification.

Profile: Andre Underwood-Pecan Springs Elementary teacher Andre Underwood encourages improvements in literacy skills by making reading fun!

Honor MLK-AISD held its annual celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy as a champion for civil rights and education. This year’s event featured remarks by Superintendent Carstarphen and essays inspired by the life of MLK by AISD students, Kiara Hopkins from Webb Middle School, Gavriel Rachael-Homann from Garza High School and Josh Rogers and Rondell Hopkins from Lanier High School. The Fulmore Middle School choir also offered a musical tribute performing three songs.

AISD Earns High Marks on Nation’s Report Card-The National Assessment of Educational Progress, also known as the nation’s report card, reported AISD students ranked second in fourth grade math and third in eighth grade math in the percentage of students scoring at the proficient or advanced levels. In reading, the students ranked third in both fourth and eighth grade. AISD’s English-language learners outperformed their peers in both the nation and large cities.

Great News Highlights:

Small Middle School’s Wind Ensemble-Clint Small Middle School's wind ensemble was a recipient of the National Wind Band Honors Mark of Excellence award presented by the Foundation for Music Education.

Anderson High School’s Fine Arts Programs- Anderson High School has been awarded the National College Board’s Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts. The school is one of only a handful in the nation to receive the prestigious award.
