APIE Salute – AISD
and Austin Partners in Education co-hosted the annual event Salute. It
is an opportunity to recognize team AISD for their dedication to
student excellence and achievement in our schools.
AISD's Teachers of Promise, newly Board Certified Teachers and Teachers
of the Year were also recognized.
APIE Celebrate – Volunteers
play an integral role in AISD by committing their time, talent and
energy to support students, and strengthen Austin schools. AISD and
Austin Partners in Education honored hundreds
of volunteers at the annual event Celebrate.
Teacher of the Year –
Austin ISD's 2014 Teacher of the Year is James Butler a Prekindergarten
teacher at Gullett Elementary School. He ensures that the school's newly
formed Pre-K program is up to standard with
AISD guidelines and that the program continues to grow and serve as a
positive addition to the Gullett community.
Sudler Shield - Austin
ISD's James Bowie High School Outdoor Performing Ensemble was awarded
as a 2013 Sudler Shield Recipient, the highest achievement a marching
band can receive.
Great News Highlights:
Latino Academic Achievement Awards –
AISD honored outstanding Latino sixth- through 12th-grade students and
Austin community members at the annual Latino Academic Achievement
Awards.
Gates Millennium Scholar –
Crockett High School senior Sara Navarro has been named as a Gates
Millennium Scholar. The scholarship will provided full college funding
for her undergraduate and graduate work.
Sara plans to use the scholarship at UT-Austin to become a pharmacy
technician.
North Acres Bridge – Crossing
Guards escorted Hart Elementary School students across the new North
Acres Bridge to the campus. This bridge and sidewalk create a safe
connection to the school, allowing students
to walk or bike to school.
Diversity Night – Barrington
Elementary School's Dual Language program hosted Multicultural Night.
The celebration showcased music and dance performances, along with food
from different cultures.
Lions Club Sportsmanship Awards - The
Austin Downtown Founders Lions Club honored two Austin ISD high school
athletics teams with Sportsmanship Awards. The Lions Club presented
awards to Bowie's football team,
which is coached by Jeff Ables, and Anderson's girls basketball team,
which is coached by Katrina Hall.
